So, for my first dA journal entry, you guys get to listen/read my rants and raves about why having a really nice camera sucks sometimes. i know it's a weird topic to read about, but i'm writing it anyway, because i need to get it off my chest. it's been bothering me for like, 2 weeks. and no one else will listen, so...ahh well. here goes nothing, i suppose.
so, for xmas of 2008, i got suuuuuper excited because my parents bought me a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS. I'd been pestering and pestering for one for MONTHS, and when i finally got it, i wasted no time in filling the memory card with pictures. the camera worked beautifully. i got straight a's on everything in photography; composition, focus, lighting, balance, the works. and got myself a few place awards at our local county fair as well. so i was super excited when, for my graduation present, my parents bought me a round trip ticket to england- for a month. i was born and raised there before i moved to my current residence, so it was a huge surprise to be going back home. (for those who don't know, or don't know me personally, i am a citizen of the united kingdom, even though i have been living here in the us since i was 5.) this unfortunately, is where most of the fun stops.
i took my camera to england with me. in a hardshell case, protectively wrapped and all that jazz. the first week and a half of my trip was fabulous! my camera worked great, took some great pictures and all that, and had a blast with my family and friends. then my grandma and i took a trip to london. and the whole time i was there, i kept getting this error message on the camera when i changed lenses and went to shoot. so i followed instructions, took our the battery, placed it back in, and turned it on. And it worked fine, for a moment or two. i spent the last 2 weeks of my trip without a decent camera to take pictures with. I was pissed.
i came home, and my best friend from texas came over, so i didn't really need my camera. it sat in my room, protected from harm, until the 3 weeks my friend was here ended. then school started. it worked the first week of school. i've been in school since august 17th. i just got a job working for starbucks coffee. i've only JUST got the money i needed to pay to ship it to Canon. So it is en route to the Canon HQ to be repaired. It will take one week to get there, and i mailed it on my birthday (Sep 19th), it will take a week for Canon to repair it, and a week to get the fricking thing back. so i've had to beg on my hands and knees for my advanced photo teacher to lend me his camera.
i hate this.
its a brand new camera.
i don't understand what's wrong with it.
sorry you guys are the ones getting the worst of it.
i dunno what to do about it.
